Wendy and Judy's big adventure part two

01 Feb 2010

WE'VE ARRIVED......thank goodness...finally.

TaDa! I've arrived

This was my second time on a plane. Oh boy! Cuban airport is kinda scary - they all are wearing green masks. They are protecting themselves from the pandemic. We said there is no pandemic, it's been cancelled. They kept the masks on.

Cuba (pronounced Koo ba) has wild cows, wild dogs, wild boars, and of course wild tourists! Thank you Ruth for the hat.

Wendy and Judy's big adventure!

30 Jan 2010

WARNING. THIS CHAPTER IS ALL ABOUT OUR TRIP TO CUBA.

If you hate hearing about other people's adventures, log out now...'cause boy, did we have fun!

So my friend Judy comes into the store and says something to the effect that I looked big and fat and she'd go with me to Weight Watchers.

Really, what Judy said is, 'Do we think this is the time we need to join because it's a really good deal right now'. For those of you who don't know me I'm a life time member.....it's a good place to go. Just not for me right now. I think my reply perhaps was rather curt...humm, sorry Jude. I said 'Heck no! I want a place with no snow and lots of sunshine'. I'll be darned if the girl didn't run downtown and get a travel book.

Then I get the phone call. 'Can you be ready to go on Thursday?' Are you daft? I haven't owned a swim suit in ten...(.wait, how old is my youngest?) twenty years. It's Tuesday...give me a break! With a lot of help from my friends, I was ready for a week from Thursday. Quilters really are wonderful people.

So you take these two country gals (one is from north of the checker board even!) and plunk them into Toronto....5 hours early, because we get lost. Doesn't everyone schedule time into their travels for getting lost. Well, apparently we didn't need the extra time. Judy and I can always find a Swiss Chalet. Thank you.

Me and the booze

This is what $20.00 worth of airport alcohol looks like. That smile is really a pained expression.....a million screaming people all around fighting for space in a very small airport restaurant. Our trip begins. Look out! I'm still not convinced that there is a place that doesn't have snow.....and cold.

New windows!

16 Dec 2009

HO. HO. LOOK AT THE SNOW!

Talk about service in a small town.  I phoned Clear Lite.

"Hi Doug! It's Wendy. It's cold again. Yep, winter has happened again this year. Who knew! Oh, and my curtains still move when the wind is blowing. Maybe this is the year for new windows. Whaduya think? Could you maybe measure them for me? Thanks!"

Ten minutes later ( OK, maybe it was the next day), Doug shows up. Tape measure in hand. It will be 8 weeks. No problem.

Time flies. Yesterday, I went to get the mail, and came back to find strange men standing in the big hole that used to be my patio door. Four weeks early!! That's service! I get to save on heat for an extra month this winter!!! WOW!

New windows2

Apparently most people don't disappear to the post office for two or three hours. Humm. The strange men are very nice and take instruction very well from quilters.  That was yesterday.

Today...yep you guessed it. Window guys start work in the wee hours. OK, it was 8am, but it seemed early through my tired old eyes. They shovelled my front door. Isn't that great! They seem happy to move all that heavy stuff that I couldn't move. They really think they should pay for coffee. Don't they know the more they drink, the less I will drink? Thank you. They should really drink more than one cup...

It's now noon. I've just turned my furnace back on. It's kinda nippy in here. But, all 7 windows are in, and in the process of being made all pretty. Life is good.

New windows

It no longer sounds like those big trucks are coming through my walls. Thanks Clear Lite! I like living in a small town!

All Nighters...here they come!

23 Nov 2009

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND..

.POT LUCK - ALL NIGHTERS!

Ok, so anyone who knows me, will tell you, cooking is not my strong point. We used to have a bird that used to mimic the smoke alarm sound whenever she saw me standing at the stove....true story.

I love to eat. I hate to cook....last night I discovered this drawer in the bottom of my gas stove, is more then decorative. Imagine! Open the drawer, and there is this pan that looks like it should have a steak slapped onto it. And that's what I did. Spin the dial to 'broil' and the house did not blow up! Bonus! Ted always said that timing was everything for steak. He used to BBQ my steak (rare) for 7 minutes on each side. Yumm. The problem here, is that 7 minutes is not long enough to microwave this, and go there, and check on that...7 minutes turned into 9 minutes, flip, and then 7 minutes didn't look like enough. So, turn off 'broil' and leave for a while...rare turned into well, I miss Ted.

So POT LUCK - ALL NIGHTERS......yes! The first one will happen on Saturday, December 5th...the cost is $5.00, bring food. Yumm. Check my class listing for more info. I'll purchase something wonderful that looks homemade, OK?

Remember to keep yourself in stitches, Wendy

I'm OK

19 Nov 2009

For those of you who missed me at Guild on Monday night, I'm OK. I hit the big city and had a visit with my boy....that's a joke. My son is 6'10" more or less. Needless to say, I'm not.

I phoned him last week and told him I was home sick, could I please come for a visit? I haven't seen him since his Dad's funeral and that was 7 weeks ago. Imagine how shocked I was when he offered to make up the spare bed. When my brother and I moved him in to 'res' on labour day that idea was 'creepy'. Maybe he's homesick too. The big city is pretty scarey for this country girl, but by the time I left, I think some of the city people where scared too. I really must try to check my blind side more....I feel better knowing that my boy is OK. So am I. Thanks Ann, for stopping in yesterday to check on me. The hug helps.

I brought tons of new fabric home with me, and Ruthann is still trying to find a place for it.
